Bob Ekstrom*

Bob spent 23 years in the municipal bond industry and running/owning his own commercial cleaning business. Taking his personal experience in owning his own business Bob decided to direct his energies to providing his clients with constructive insurance strategies to secure their future.

Bob works closely with small business owners by helping them navigate and prioritize the conflicting demands that running a successful business presents.

With the support of Carolina Asset Management, Bob offers a wide range of financial services in order for his clients to reach those goals.

Chris Ekstrom***

Chris grew up in Charlotte North Carolina, graduating from Charlotte Latin School and earned a degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a B.S. in Business Administration. In his free time Chris enjoys playing golf, mountain biking, and spending time with his wife and family.

Chris joined Carolina Asset Management from UBS Financial Services. He has worked in the securities industry for over 7 years now in various capacities. Prior to joining UBS, Chris spent the bulk of his career as an institutional fixed income broker working closely with Banks and Credit Unions to assist in investment portfolio management.

He brings a unique knowledge of fixed income and interest rate risk mitigation. Chris has leveraged this with his client base to build investment portfolios that are mindful of asset allocation, interest rate risk, and also concentration risk.

Robert Hackney*

Robert was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. He attended Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC where he played on the schools Rugby team. Robert proudly served and held the rank of Specialist, as a Forward Observer for the United States Army Reserves in the 30th Heavy Brigade Team, Mechanized Infantry Unit, 1/113th Field Artillery Battalion.

Robert is a member of and supports many local organizations including the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte, Kiwanis International of Charlotte, Loaves and Fishes, the Mint Museum, and United Way of the Central Carolinas. Robert attends Providence United Methodist Church where he also coaches the Senior High men’s basketball team. In his spare time, He enjoys playing golf, training for triathlons, as well as all other forms of sport, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Robert is a Financial Professional with Carolina Asset Management. Robert’s team recognizes that wealth management extends beyond balance sheets and portfolio allocations. Their perspective spurs us to spend significant time addressing client financial values and recognize that all financial issues are people-driven and strongly believe that wealth management extends beyond balance sheets and portfolio allocations. Client financial values are of upmost importance to their approach. They delineate those values, addressing the following topics: Offer nonprofit organizations and institutions, as well as affluent individuals and families access to a team of professionals who have the knowledge, experience and accreditations to serve their specific financial needs.

Joe Kissler**

Joe was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has lived in Charlotte since 2004. Joe was the number one pitcher and team captain for the Cardinal Stritch University baseball team. Joe graduated with a degree in accounting and brings a great skill set in working with his clients. Joe enjoys baseball, his dogs and spending time with his daughter Lexie.

Joe began his financial services career with HF Financial (MassMutual). Joe joined Carolina Asset Management to further help his clients reach their financial goals. He enjoys truly working in his client’s best interest which made aligning with Carolina Asset Management and the independent nature of the firm a natural fit.

W. Stewart McKibben*

W. Stewart McKibben, a Charlotte native, is an equity partner of Carolina Asset Management and serves as its Sales Director. Stewart entered the financial services industry in 2010 and co-founded Carolina Asset Management.

Stewart focuses on financial and estate planning for individuals and for owners of closely held businesses. He is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Leadership.

Stewart has served on the board of numerous local charities and foundations. He and Carolina Asset Management are active supporters of many charitable organizations in their fundraising efforts.

He is engaged to Dr. Heather Gentry, and they are the parents of their 5 loving dogs, Sampson, Gunner, Bella, Beetle and Zoe. As an animal lover and dog owner himself, Stewart supports the SPCA and local Humane Society. He spends his time enjoying the outdoors, working out, volunteering and traveling both domestically and internationally.

Ryan Schachtner***

President

Ryan B. Schachtner was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and began his financial services career in 2000. In 2003 Ryan relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina as he continued to build his financial services practice. Ryan focuses on financial, estate and investment planning for individuals and for owners of closely held businesses. Ryan has received a number of industry awards including membership to MDRT and the NQA (National Quality Award) through NAIFA.

Ryan is married to Robin and they have two children, Brooks and Reese.

Ryan and Robin are actively involved in the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte as well as with their church family at Westminster Presbyterian in Rock Hill, South Carolina. In his down time, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Carolina Panther football, and visiting the many beautiful Carolina beaches.

Carolina Asset Management’s corporate headquarters is located in Charlotte, NC and has representatives throughout North and South Carolina.

Brian Schoonover***

After 22 years of active duty service in the U.S. Army which entailed a significant amount of travel Brian decided to make Winston Salem home. He began his career as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones in November of 2012 and joined Carolina Asset Management in 2015. Brian has built his financial services practice on providing financial guidance to families and businesses, focusing first on their outcomes and goals. Brian’s mission is to provide his clients with effective and financially sound protection strategies that they understand and that will make sense of the increasingly complex financial environment we are in.
